IT question: Is is possible to connect trough VPN from inside the network you’re connecting to?

This is the question that bothers me today. Is it possible to connect trough VPN (Virtual Private Network) from inside the network you’re connecting to?

I know it’s a little dumb, to say the least, but I found an analogy to prove I’m demanding something which has sense. Imagine you’re stuck locked into your home with the keys left outside. It’s possible, don’t mock me!

Now, if you know how this can be done let me know, I need a viable answer. Google seems not to know and the only solution that seems possible is using a proxy, but I haven’t tried that yet.

Greenpeace says Apple iPhone not so green

These days the word of mouth is green, of course related to environment and pollution. Apple is a company that (almost) everybody loves, but today they’ve made themselves a very powerful enemy, Greenpeace, the biggest environment protector.

They’ve posted a short video on Youtube showing that Apple iPhone contains chemicals that are not well regarded in European Union. On the other end comes Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Motorola who managed to get green products for some time already.

That strikes me is that Apple made a statement a few months ago saying that they are really surprised to see they meet environment regulations, unlike other companies. Maybe they weren’t aware of the iPhone, as it was launched after that statement… yeah right.

Discovery buys HowStuffWorks, Wikipedia better watch out

Before Wikipedia existed, the only answer to the "what is X?" question was Howstuffworks, an excellent website where you can find out today what are and how various things work.

Once Wikipedia surfaced the web, with a much broader article database, Howstuffworks slowly but surely sunk into anonymity. Today, the website was acquired by Discovery Communications, owners of Discovery Channel and Animal planet TV channels.

What implications this acquisition has? I would bet my rent money that the new Howstuffworks will attempt to shake Wikipedia’s position as the world’s biggest encyclopedia. I’m curious what content model will they implement: user generated and moderated content or in-house creations. One thing is for sure, Discovery intends first to upload around 100.000 hours of documentaries and include Howstuffworks in their TV schedule somehow.

MTube UMPC - preview gone wild

I was an IT journalist for some time now. Even if now I don’t do that anymore, I still have some automatisms left, like checking RSS feeds everyday. That’s how I’ve came across a MTube UMPC preview, done by someone at UltraMobileLife.

If you don’t know yet what a UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC) is look no further than Wikipedia’s page. Now, back to the preview. I know that everyone those days is trying to get their hands on hot products, pre production samples and pretty much any information that can help get some attention, but it’s supposed to be something, right.

VIA’s MTube, a “real” concept photo

Watch the next video and see if you manage not to get disappointed. The preview might as well be a hoax, as it doesn’t present anything. Is like showing off an iPhone without actually powering it on. It doesn’t matter what excuse you have: you’ll look dumb anyway.

2057 Honda 124 unique car concept of the future

If you all love cars as I do then certainly you keep in touch with the industry. Today I’ve seen the amazing 2057 Honda 124 car concept, a blend between public transportation and personal vehicle.

In fact the concept incorporates 4 vehicles, for 4 passengers, that travel together to a certain point, then the four modules split allowing them to “walk” different paths.

All is possible thanks to molecular biotechnology and AI (Artificial Intelligence), or better said, it will be possible around 2057. Take a look at the pictures below. More pictures here, on go4it.ro. [Source: Autoblog]

Almost done, just a few tweaks here and there and it’s gonna be finished, v1.0, of course.
